The castle has changed hands many many times. Only after the Corvins aka the Hunyadis it was owned by 22 different individuals. First mentioned in the 14th century it got its famous towers, a palace and a chapel some 100 years later combining Gothic and Renaissance styles. The Habsburgs laid their hands on the castle in the 18th century and made it an administrative point that was ravaged by a massive fire which destroyed lavish wooden elements. It is said that notorious Dracula’s protagonist Vlad the Impaler spent some time in the castle as a prisoner.
